Telstra names Pollard top marketer

By Rosie Baker and Paul McIntyre | 21 November 2014

Telstra has confirmed to AdNews that Joe Pollard, ex Publicis Mojo CEO, will take on the media and marketing role left vacant by Mark Buckman last month.

Pollard has resigned her seat on the board of Nine Entertainment Co. as a result of the conflict with Telstra Media. She will continue to sit on the board of both AMP Bank and 12BWT, Michelle Bridges' health organisation.

Buckman announced his departure in July.

She takes on the role of group managing director, Telstra Media and Marketing

Until now, Buckman's role, group managing director for media and marketing, had been split in two with Adam Good taking control of the media side of the business on an interim basis.

The telco industry has seen a lot of movement in recent months with Vodafone, Optus and now Telstra announcing new top marketers.

Vodafone named Philippines marketer Loo Fun Chee as its CMO this week, while Optus has put Sue Bailey in charge of marketing on an interim basis following the departure of Nathan Rosenberg.

Telstra's statement from Gordon Ballantyne Group Executive Telstra Retail below:

I am delighted to announce the appointment of Joe Pollard to the position of Group Managing Director, Telstra Media and Marketing to succeed Mark Buckman.

Joe is a highly regarded media and marketing executive with an extensive and distinguished career in Australia and overseas. Joe joins us from Nine Entertainment where she was a Non Executive Director and has previously held a number of executive positions including CEO of advertising company Publicis Mojo, CEO of ninemsn and Global Director of Media, Digital and Content for Nike. She is also a current board member of AMP Bank.

Joe’s strategic digital credentials will enhance our already strong media and marketing capabilities. Her appointment comes at an important time as we continue to develop our media business as a key growth opportunity and continue to grow the value of the Telstra brand.

Joe starts her appointment on 25 November and will report directly to Gordon Ballantyne. There will be no change to the reporting lines of the Media and Marketing teams.
