Optus is poised to hand its media planning and buying account to UM, AdNews understands.

Rumours have been building around the outcome of the lengthy pitch process, but it's thought that the decision has been made and that contracts are in the final stages of negotiations. It is expected to be officially announced imminently.

The account currently sits with Starcom, and the final stage of the pitch is understood to have come down to the incumbent and UM. Havas had been part of the earlier stages of the process.

Optus is also currently reviewing its creative agency arrangements with a decision expected on that imminently. It appointed The Works to handle its direct marketing earlier this year and has this week rolled out Optus Perks - a new loyalty reward programme for customers.

All agencies and Optus declined to comment.
