In the battle for one of the biggest media accounts in Australia, AdNews understands that there are now just two media agencies set to dual it out.

As reported in June, incumbent Starcom, Havas and UM were the trio of top agencies potentially deemed appropriate to take on the telco giant's media planning and buying account – worth about $40 million.

However, AdNews understands that Havas is now out of the running. This leaves Starcom and UM, headed up by new CEO Ross Raeburn, left in the ring.

All agencies declined to comment on the pitch.

Optus' creative account is also under review. The pitch comes just months after it named The Works as its direct agency.

Optus is still rolling advertising, such as it's recent Ricky Gervais ad by Emotive.
