Carat names Paul Brooks as CEO

Paul Brooks has been appointed chief executive of Carat Australia and New Zealand and will take the reins from incumbent CEO Simon Ryan on 4 October. Brooks is the president of Amplifi, the media investment arm of Dentsu Aegis Network (DAN). He takes over one of Australia’s largest marketing communications agencies, which has gone through an exhaustive hunt for a new chief executive since Ryan took over as chief executive of DAN Australia and New Zealand in February. Pacific Magazines appoints Gereurd Roberts as new CEO

Pacific Magazines has appointed Gereurd Roberts as CEO, replacing Peter Zavecz who announced his exit from the publisher last month.  Roberts was tipped for the promotion to CEO from his role as PacMags general manager of food, family and home after spending nearly three years in the role. Roberts will report to Seven West Media CEO Tim Worner, who says Roberts has done a "tremendous job" leading advertising sales, client services, digital sales and building the portfolio of publishing brands. Top Nine exec Andrew Backwell exits

Nine’s managing director of programming and production, Andrew Backwell, has resigned after 14 years with the business. The move follows what has been a tumultuous ratings season for Nine - with shows such as Australia’s Got Talent and The Farmer Wants a Wife not performing as anticipated. The Australian’s Media Diary column flagged that tensions were growing in the programming team. Read more here.

Ensemble's Ricketts resurfaces at new WPP content venture

The former CEO and founder of IPG Mediabrands-owned content agency Ensemble, Justin Ricketts, has resurfaced at a newly launched content agency owned by WPP AUNZ. Ricketts, who established Ensemble here in 2010 and left in 2016 along with its MD Tim Hodgson "to pursue new opportunities", is now the CEO of 'Agile Content Productions'. The agency was set up this year and is part of the WPP AUNZ stable. Read more here.

Havas Media appoints investment director and COO

Havas Media has appointed Dentsu's John Lynch into the new role of national investment director and promoted James Zipeure to chief operating officer. At Dentsu Aegis Network, Lynch was group investment director for OOH and print and has previously held senior commercial roles at Posterscope, Carat and ZenithOptimendia. He will be responsible for evolving Havas Media's commercial capabilities across media and non-media client product portfolio, including technology services, content and programmatic. The role will see him work across the group's media brands - Havas Media, Havas Sports and Entertainment and Arena Media. Read more here.

Atomic 212 poaches director from UM

Atomic 212 has recruited Andrea Cehovin as senior account director with a specialty in digital. Cehovin joins from UM, where she was associate digitial director. She will work across all accounts, with a heavy focus on the Melbourne-based $40 million Origin Energy account that Atomic 212 won earlier this year. Cehovin brings more than eight years of digital and social experience to Atomic's Melbourne office as it plans to match the billings of its Sydney counterpart by 2018. Recently, Atomic 212 won the Ovolo Hotels and US manufecturer Rust-Oleum.

Twitter’s Tony Broderick exits for Breakthrough media

Twitter’s head of partnerships, news and television, Tony Broderick, is departing the social media company after almost three years to join Breakthrough Media.

Ogilvy Sydney appoints new chief strategy officer

Ogilvy Sydney has hired former adam&eveDDB head of strategy Toby Harrison after a three year stint in London. He has previously held titles at Drog5 Sydney, The Monkeys and BMF.
