WPP’s chief strategy officer, Katie Rigg-Smith, has resigned after 26 years.

Rigg-Smith will take time off from May to pursue her interest as a futurist, providing clients and industry sectors with social and strategic foresights, Bandt's reported.

Katie Rigg-Smith said this role has shone a light on how much passion she has for the strategic foresight, futurist, and trends analysis part of her career.

”Thank you Rose Herceg for showing me what a mind at work looks like day in and day out, and for giving me the confidence to pursue a career in this area,” Rigg-Smith said.

Katie Rigg-Smith was promoted to the top job at Mindshare in April 2013 after 14 years with the agency, having joined as a graduate trainee before rising to the role of chief strategy officer in 2011.

Mindshare have won many industry brands under Rigg-Smith’s management, including Foxtel, IKEA, Jenny Craig, NAB, Tourism New Zealand, Unilever and more.

“I’ve spent three years talking to leaders of various stripes across all categories about the ‘what if?’ When executed beautifully it leads to new revenue streams, new audiences and growth. I’m looking forward to spending all my professional energy answering this question for companies who can see the possibility,” Rigg-Smith said.

“I simply cannot thank everyone who has helped me, inspired me, been my friend and made my time with WPP, GroupM and Mindshare what it has been,” Rigg-Smith said.
