Tourism Australia has named Chris Hemsworth as its new ambassador, as an “authentic Australian voice” to tell its story globally.

Hemsworth will launch Tourism Australia's latest campaign, which will focus on Australia's aquatic and coastal experience.

The new campaign is part of a renewed boost in promoting the aquatic assets of Australia and includes the production of a documentary featuring broadcaster David Attenborough.

Tourism Australia chief marketing officer Lisa Ronson says Hemsworth will launch the new campaign in New York when it premieres the day before Australia Day.

“Chris is passionate about Australia, with a genuine desire to promote the Australian way of life and therefore makes a great global ambassador for telling the world why there's nothing like Australia,” Ronson says.

“This is just the start of a longer-term partnership with Chris and we look forward to further developing our plans after the launch in New York.”

“In Australia you're surrounded by the most incredible natural beauty. Being in the water or near to it is a way of life for us,” Hemsworth says.

“It wasn't a hard decision to move back to Australia because this part of the world is such a special place.”
