The Block is back

The ratings juggernaut that is The Block will be back on 27 January for a 10th season.

The show has proved a nightly winner for Nine in the past, with roughly 3.6 million tuning into the finale last season.

This series will feature a total of nine teams competing for four places, with those four teams then given the task of turning a brick box in South Yarra into one luxury apartment.

Six new teams will compete for three of the places, while three teams of “All Stars” will compete for one spot.

However, only three teams will survive the first week with the three teams left each given a floor to rennovate.

Last year there was a mixed ending to the series, with two teams leaving with just $10,000 for weeks of backbreaking work, with another team left with $40,000. Only two of the teams left with the massive windfall the show had spruiked.

However, back in 2011 three of the four properties turned around by contestants were passed in for auction.

Despite this, there will be no change to the way prize money is handed out, with teams able to pocket what they make over the reserve, with the team which makes the most over reserve given an extra $100,000.

Observers will be watching keenly to see whether Seven's My Kitchen Rules or Nine's The Block comes away from 2015 as the most popular reality show.
