OMD boosts Telstra team with Saatchi headhunt

OMD Sydney has beefed up its telecommunications talent roster, signing M&C Saatchi's Sydney strategy head, Dan Bye, to  head up strategy on OMD's Telstra account.

The media agency said it made the appointment based on Bye's telecoms experience, including work with Optus, Orange, SapientNitro and M&C Saatchi.

OMD said that with the lines between creative and media agencies starting to blur, Bye will bring a creative edge to the agency as well as his telecoms experience.

Bye said that OMD's data offering made the role an enticing one.

“The really exciting opportunity for me is the richness in insights and data that OMD holds that will really help identify clients' business problems and opportunities to better engage with their consumers, enabling OMD to be a strong strategic partner to Telstra,” Bye said.

That is the second strategy appointment within a month for OMD, with The Monkeys' Mat Rawnsley joining the agency last month as its head of strategy in Sydney.

Bye will report to OMD's national strategy director, Gavin Gibson, and will start on December 8.
