OMD poaches Mat Rawnsley from The Monkeys

The Monkeys' Mat Rawnsley is heading to OMD to become group strategy head for OMD Sydney.

Rawnsley spent three and a half years with the agency, which last night won the Media Federation Awards Grand Prix.

He ha also held communications and strategy roles within the Omnicom group (across OMD, DDB and Clemenger BBDO), kwp! and Naked.

OMD said the appointment was made to increase focus on expanding strategic product across Tourism Australia and other key clients.

Rawnsley said OMD could offer "differerent opportunities" to the creative agency.

“The past few years at The Monkeys was a top ride, but I’m seriously looking forward to the very different opportunities that a big but progressive media agency like OMD has to offer," he said.

"They’ve got a compelling client list, they’re nice people, and they’re set up to do great work”.

Rawnsley will report to OMD national head of strategy, Gavin Gibson, with the appointment effective immediately.
