Nine and Southern Cross hold talks

Nine Entertainment and Southern Cross Media have held talks about redistributing Nine's signals and delivering them into regional areas, according to The Australian.

Nine currently has a alignment with Bruce Gordon's Win Corporation which is due to expire mid this year, while Southern Cross' metropolitan affiliate is Ten.

Under the deal, Nine could redistribute its signals in the same areas as Ten, allowing Southern Cross to take channels from both, with all sharing in the efficiencies of having one set of regional overhead costs.

Former Fairfax exec slams Hywood

Also in The Australian, former Fairfax Media senior executive Glenn Burge has slammed its current chief executive Greg Hywood for having “no plan”, following announced cuts of 120 full time employees from Sydney and Melbourne.

While Burge had been involved in redundancy rounds during his role at the publisher, he says Hywood has no long term strategy on how to still produce high quality journalism after the cuts.

Sky News to host Bolt show

Andrew Bolt's controversial television show The Bolt Report will return as a program on Sky News in May, The Australian is reporting.

The program will launch ahead of the upcoming federal election, and is part of a larger investment by Sky News, with former chief of staff to the prime minister Peta Credlin rumoured to be joining its wider election coverage.

Foxtel could host Netflix on streaming device

Foxtel is considering including Netflix on an upcoming streaming device it has rumoured for release in the market, according to the Australian Financial Review (AFR).

The device, is an aggregation platform similar to Apple TV and Telstra TV and hosting Netflix would allow Foxtel to neutralise the threat of the US streaming giant as a competitor.
