WPP-owned full service agency Ikon has been appointed as the media agency of record for chocolate brand Lindt & Sprungli, following a competitive pitch.

The account win will see Ikon assume responsibility for all aspects of media planning across the Lindt chocolate brand portfolio, with Ikon taking over brand activity from 1 July.

Ikon Sydney will handle the account with managing partner James Sawyer adding the agency was looking forward to helping Lindt transform its presence within Australia in "increasingly challenging times".

“Ikon’s credentials and unique offering in media and strategic thinking played a big role in Lindt’s decision to appoint us, this is a super win for Ikon and the team are excited to get started already," Sawyer says.

The account win follows the news by Ikon earlier this month that it had entered into a new partnership with 'virtual agency' Skinner Advertising Services (SAS), which handles the accounts for Carpet Call and entertainment company Feld Entertainment.

Over the past 12 months, Ikon has also won the media accounts for Avis Budget Group and The Star Entertainment Group, while also consolidating the media account for insurer NIB.

The agency also announced this year that it would drop its previous branding and adopt a new look and strategy that emphasises its key offerings including, strategy, digital, technology, creative, social, channel planning and dynamic.

AdNews spoke with Ikon CEO Lesley Edwards earlier this year on the future of the full-service agency, with Edwards touting 2019 as the year the agency would prove its "formidable transformation" in market.

"We were looking for an agency to partner with us as we move through our next phase of growth.  Ikon's unique skill set and uninhibited approach to creating innovative business solutions for its clients will be put to very good use as we work together," Lidnt & Sprungli Australia marketing director Nick Brock says.
