Holden marketing boss Mark Harland's has departed the General Motors-owned business after 13 years.

He will be replaced by Kristian Aquilina who is currently managing director of Holden and Isuzu in New Zealand.

Under Harland's lead, Holden appointed a new agency in The Monkeys, shifted the automotive brand's focus to target women and scored the position of naming rights' sponsor of the NRL State of Origin.

Appointed as executive director of marketing in 2016, Harland led the business through its transition from Australian manufacturing.

“Mark has brought a fresh perspective to Holden during a difficult period of transition. We thank him for his passion and wish him well on his future endeavours,” said Mark Bernhard, Holden chairman and managing director says.

Aquilina has had an extensive career with General Motors, spanning over 20 years.

During this time, he has worked in sales, marketing, product management and government relations.

“Kristian’s understanding of product, marketing, customers and the Australian motoring landscape is second to none. We are looking forward to Kristian advancing the Holden business in Australia," Bernhard says.

“We’re passionate about our future and confident that our sales will improve. Marketing is a key part to ensuring this.”

Aquilina says he is excited to lead the brand through a period of significant transformation.

“I’m passionate about Holden and our products – they are the best we’ve ever had. My job is to bring people on the journey with us," he says.
