An app which connects room seekers with suitable roommates has taken out the Hahn Jumpstart innovation competition, with the winners announced in Surry Hills last night.

The winning idea was born from the teams experiences with interesting with flatmates in the past and now the boys from Roomeaze have walked away with $20,000 to turn their idea into a reality.

As well as the $20,000 the winners also receive a tailored mentoring program involving Hahn Jumpstart ambassador Jack Delosa and some of Australia’s top young adult entrepreneurs.

Scott Saxton and Alex Paterson from Roomeaze, who were at the winners announcement last night, told AdNews that while winning the money was great, the mentoring sessions that they've won will be invaluable.

“The money obviously helps to get the business set up and financed but the mentoring side of things really helps; the networking, these are all key things for us at the moment,” Saxton said.

Paterson said: “The collaboration with the mentors will be invaluable, the $20,000 is fantastic but the mentoring is just so valuable.”

Also announced last night was the Runners Up, Bambidi Surf, and People’s Choice, Bindle, which were Australia’s most ‘liked’ idea.

Both Bambidi Surf and Bindle will also receive a tailored mentoring program, as well as $5000.

Hahn brand director Tanya Marler told AdNews that the younger generation really embraced the competition and put forward passionate ideas.

“For me it was really inspiring to be a part of, because Hahn Jumpstart really talked to our core values of passion, collaboration, free thinking and entrepreneurship. It was a stellar job from these guys,” Marler said.

Marler explained that when it comes to advertising and marketing it can be really hard to reach the younger 18-25 demographic, and Hahn Jumpstart was not only able to do that, but it gave that age group a platform to be able to own the conversation.

“I think it's challenging in any industry to reach these guys, but to reach them in a way that's relevant to them and to actually give them a forum to speak on the things that they’re passionate about. It's unbelievable,” she said.

When it comes to continuing Hahn Jumpstart next year, Marler said it's on the cards: “At the moment we're celebrating this year and putting these guys up on pedestal and saying; 'Well done!' Next year let's see what it holds because it is what we stand for.”
