E! Entertainment Television Australia is ramping up its editorial and advertising proposition by hiring a news team and expanding its digital ad offering.

In its quest to push more Australian content on its digital E! News space, The NBCUniversal owned subsidiary has hired ex-Nine and Marie Clare execs to its editorial team.

The Australian digital offering, which reaches 800,000 unique Australian visitors per month, previously published content largely from its sister site in the US.

Along with a group of contributors responsible for providing articles, opinion pieces and television recaps, E! News Australia will now be overseen by Ashley Spencer, who was most recently editor of Nine Entertainment's TheFix. Spencer was previously a senior editor at Us Weekly in New York and has written for The Hollywood Reporter, HuffPost and Women's Health.

NBCUniversal International Networks and Television Distribution ANZ, Chris Taylor, says the move coincides with opening up new revenue opportunities in branded content, native editorial and video space - “offering our clients integrated partnerships across our multi-platform ecosystem”.

“The appointment of the E! News Australia editorial team is integral to our digital content strategy, which seeks to grow our local digital audience and in turn introduce new viewers to our linear channel,” Taylor says.

Joining Spencer as associate editor is Winsome Walker, former digital content editor at Marie Claire, as well as working on Who and News Corp.

The team will deliver news, interviews and celebrity lifestyle content, as well as covering red-carpet events and providing video content and social initiatives. This will all sit alongside content direct from E! News US.

It is also set to expand into include locally produced short video segments covering beauty, fashion, fitness and travel.
