ABC overtakes Nine and SMH in Nielsen ratings

ABC has jumped two places in the October Nielsen Digital Ratings, bumping Nine and the Sydney Morning Herald (SMH) down the ladder.

News.com.au has continued to hold its top position, with a unique audience of 5.5 million.

News sites saw positive results during October, with nine of the top 10 sites ranked by unique audience reporting growth.

ABC grew its audience by 15% from 4.048 million in September to now 4.6 million in October. Nine also saw a lift in its audience, but moved from second to third with a viewership of 4.5 million – a 7% increase.

Smh.com.au moved to fourth place with a unique audience of 4.2 million.

Daily Mail Australia and Yahoo7 news retained their 5th and 6th positions in the rankings with increases of 8% and 14% respectively. The Herald Sun jumped to 7th place overall with a 17% increase.

The Guardian moved to 8th place in the rankings during October and The Age to 9th. BBC moved back into the rankings in 10th place.
