YouTube has launched its first lot of original content, under the umbrella of its paid subscription services, YouTube Red.

Four shows will debut on the service including a reality-adventure series from YouTuber PewDiePie called Scare PewDiePie and a feature length movie starring YouTuber Lilly Singh called A Trip to Unicorn Island.

In addition, Rooster Teeth has created a feature length alien battle movie called Lazer Team while AwesomenessTV has unveiled a film called Dance Camp.

According to Engadget, YouTube has already ordered six additional pieces of content for Red, including zombie apocalypse video Fight of the Living Dead and a CollegeHumor show called Bad Internet.

YouTube Red was announced in October last year to US customers and sets users back $USD9.99 a month for free content as long as they are logged in – another move by a global behemoth to extract our data.

While there is no current word on when the service will come to Australia, the move could see brands further focus their next wave of marketing on branded content rather than straight advertising, as we assume branded content and brands partnering with content creators will get past YouTube Red's “no ad” parameters.
