Young Gun: M&C Saatchi Sport & Entertainment account director Saynaree Oudomvilay

3 December 2020

Our Young Gun profile takes a look at some of the young talent across the advertising, adtech, marketing and media sector in Australia. It aims to shed light on the varying roles, people and companies across the buzzing industry.

Today we speak to M&C Saatchi Sport & Entertainment account director Saynaree Oudomvilay.

Time at the company:
Two years.

How long have you been in the industry?
Eight years.

How did you get here? Was this always the plan?
Absolutely. I studied communications at university, did multiple internships at agencies and publishers and binge-watched enough of The Hills to set my heart on a job in comms.

Who guides you day-to-day?
Our head of communications, Krystyna Frassetto. I've already learnt so much from her in the short time we've worked together.

What’s the best thing about the industry you work in?
Some of the weird and wonderful situations we can get ourselves in - from wrangling high profile talent on a red carpet to scrolling through hours of social media in the name of work. The amount of times I've been at work and said to myself, "Wow, I can't believe this is my job" is probably my biggest flex. Also, the people. I've made so many lifelong friends through work.

And the biggest challenge?
Diversity, I think there's still a way to go when it comes to healthy representation in the industry. A lot of the work we do is aimed at the broader population, so it'd be great to see a better mix of voices and opinions throughout the process that is more representative of this.

Whose job have you set your sights on in the future?
At this rate, probably something that doesn't exist yet... But for now, I can see future me narrowing in on an industry I'm super passionate about, with food/ drink and beauty at the top of the list.

Where do you turn for inspiration?
TikTok, the creativity on the app is off the charts. I'm also a sucker for meme culture, bad lip-synching and lame dances.

My favourite advert is:
Not a traditional "ad", but I loved the campaign Burger King did with Stevenage FC. Such a clever use of sponsorship and great integration from all sides.

Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you?
I've never watched Game of Thrones.

In five years’, time I'll be:
Still learning from the best - either here or somewhere else in the world.
