Seven's grand final winner announcement of the X Factor smashed the ratings, with 1.2 million viewers tuning in to see Cyrus Villanueva take home the title, but the show was down on last year's final.

The winner's announcement was the top watched show of the night, according to overnight OzTam figures. The first half of the finale picked up 1.04m viewers as the second most watched show of the night.

Despite the big result, the numbers were down on last year's finale episode, which saw overnight figures of 1.4m viewers.

Nine's The Block, which will air its auction episode tonight, was the fourth most watched show of the night with 960,000 viewers.

The Block also topped by demographic in the 16-39, 18-49 and 25-54 age brackets.

Nine's showing of The Big Ban Theory was the 12th most watched show of the night with 702,000 viewers.

Seven won the night with 30.6% audience share, followed by Nine on 27.9% audience share. Ten picked up 20.1% audience share, followed by 17.6% and SBS on 3.8% audience share.
