Virgin Blue appoints Clemenger BBDO to $50m ad account

Virgin Blue Group has appointed Clemenger BBDO to handle its $50 million creative advertising account for its airlines.

Sources confirmed Clemenger BBDO will be responsible for creative advertising and brand marketing across the Virgin Blue, V Australia, Pacific Blue and Polynesian Blue airlines.

It will also be tasked with undertaking a major re-positioning of the brand and will work closely with Virgin Blue Group’s newly appointed creative director Hans Hulsbosch.

The appointment follows a four-way pitch against BMF, DDB and Virgin Blue incumbent SapientNitro. V Australia incumbent Droga5 and BWM both pulled out of the pitch in early July.

SapientNitro national managing director Michael Branagh told AdNews the account loss would not lead to redundancies at the agency, which has held the account for 11 years.

"We have no plans for any changes within the agency in terms of staff at this point."

"This is the end of a long relationship, Virgin Blue have a mantra for change at the moment," Branagh said.
