Creative director Adrian Elton revamped his 2019 election day IKEA billboard to again nod at Clive Palmer’s Trumpet of Patriots not getting a seat at the latest federal election.

Elton said the response to the 2025 redux of his Clive/IKEA billboards has been enthusiastic.

“My new version is only over 48 hours old, so it is hard to calculate the extent of its spread given it is not like a placed ad with tracked metrics," he told AdNews.

"I also have not posted it on Twitter/X or Instagram which would normally shed more light."

The Ikea ‘billboard’ resurged across platforms including Facebook, Reddit and LinkedIn as the Trumpet of Patriots spent more than $24.1m on television advertisements this year.

“Many friends have been sharing screenshots having spotted it out in the wild. This is still greatly amusing, particularly given the uniform enthusiasm in the comments,” Elton said.

The responses range from people saying that they have seen the advert, to asking IKEA to bring the billboard back.

IKEA has not responded.

“The most amusing of all of these are those who swear that it was a real billboard that they saw in some very specific locations,” Elton said.

“Unless they're intentionally trolling their fellow internet users, I'd suggest their memory of seeing it online a few years ago has blurred to the point that they're genuinely convinced that they saw it for real.”
