Spotify is aiming to capture a bigger portion of Australians who listen to radio during their commutes, with its new personalised playlist.

Your Daily Drive, launched today, mixes news updates with music based on a user’s preference.

Spotify hopes the new tool will “revolutionise” the car experience, with the new format serving as a personalised radio for users. It’s touting Your Daily Drive as “an escape from toggling between multiple stations to avoid music that isn’t quite your taste”.

According to the industry body Commercial Radio Australia, radio accounted for 80% of in-car listening in 2016, making it an important audience to reach for streaming platforms.

To provide news updates for the playlist, Spotify has partnered with local publishers, including News Corp Australia, Schwartz Media, Mamamia and The Betoota Advocate.

Your Daily Drive initially launched in the US last year with content from The Wall Street Journal and NPR.
