It was another quiet night for free-to-air TV with news programs taking the first five spots for the evening, but none of those managing to crack the one million metro viewer mark.

The top rating program for the night was Nine news, which managed to put up 988,000 on the OzTAM overnight figures, followed by its Seven counterpart just behind on 984,000.

While Nine news was more popular in Melbourne, Seven won the market in Sydney.

Meanwhile, Seven took home the highest rating non-news show for the night, with Home and Away managing to pull in 889,000 viewers.

David Attenborough can still draw a crowd, with Nine's presentation of his Life series attracting 855,000 punters.

Meanwhile Network Ten drama Wonderland has seemingly found its middle, drawing in 458,000 viewers last night, slightly up from last week's effort of 443,000 and just down on its premiere figure of 459,000.

Interestingly, there were 536,000 video views of the show from October 8 and 15 on TenPlay.

Overall Seven won the night with a 31.9% share over Nine with 27%.

The ABC out-rated Network Ten by 2.2 points, posting a 19.2% share on the back of programs such as The Chaser and Sean Micalleff's Mad as Hell performing well on the night.
