Qantas media could be split: pitch down to two

It's thought that the Qantas media pitch is down to two agencies – OMD and Maxus – with incumbent ZenithOptimedia understood to have been informed it will not retain the domestic marketing portion of the business.

The pitch was expected to wrap up before the end of the year, but the departure of Tim McColl Jones, who had been leading the pitch, in November is likely to have delayed the process.

There are three separate parts to the Qantas media account – the most significant being the domestic marketing account, the loyalty business and international.

It's possible that in the short term the account may be divided with different agencies handling domestic marketing, loyalty and international, but over the long-term it's expected to go to one agency.

Qantas declined to make further comment about the pitch process. All agencies contacted declined to comment.
