Pitch Wrap: MediaCom, Wavemaker, Bohemia, M&C Saatchi, Publicis

It’s hard to keep track of the account wins and losses across the industry. To help you keep on top of who has what, here’s a wrap of the pitches from the week.

MediaCom wins National Rugby League pitch

MediaCom has been appointed media agency of record for the National Rugby League (NRL), dislodging Spark Foundry in a competitive pitch. The partnership will see MediaCom lead media strategy, partnerships, media buying and analytics for NRL

Bohemia wins Sharesies account

Sharesies Australia has appointed Bohemia its media partner, following a competitive media pitch. Sharesies is an investing business with the mission to help create financial empowerment for all. The Sharesies platform has over 550,000 investors across Australia and New Zealand, and makes it possible to buy shares and portions of shares from 1 cent.

The Coles pitch squeeze
The pitch for the Coles, a top 10 advertiser, has narrowed to two contenders, Omnicom and Accenture Song.
Industry insiders say Publicis Groupe -- which has been on a strong run of major account wins including Toyota, Lexus, Subway and Johnson & Johnson -- is out of the race, following WPP to the sidelines. The supermarket group in March threw open its agency roster to pitch, for the first time in more than a decade.

Greenpeace warns ad agencies as AGL opens to pitch
Global environmental activitist group Greenpeace has warned advertising agencies about working for AGL as the energy group opens its creative and media accounts to pitch. CHEP is AGL's creative agency while UM handles media buying which in 2018 was about $23 million in annual billings. Greenpeace Australia Pacific launched a major campaign against AGL in 2021, with creative from Monster Children declaring the company as “Australia’s Greatest Liability". Greenpeace was subsequently sued by AGL who alleged the ad campaign breached copyright law. AGL lost in the Federal Court.

 M&C Saatchi wins Sydney WorldPride 2023 pitch

Sydney WorldPride 2023, licensed by InterPride, has appointed, following a competitive agency tender, M&C Saatchi Group Australia as its marketing agency partner. The agreement will see M&C Saatchi Sport & Entertainment, Re. Design and media agency Bohemia, specialist agencies within the M&C Saatchi Group, deliver integrated campaigns and experiences to drive awareness, ticket sales and tourism from across Australia and key international markets including the US, UK, NZ, Singapore, France and Spain.

Howatson+Company wins UNSW media pitch

UNSW Sydney has awarded its media account to Howatson+Company. The agency was appointed following a competitive tender process to service UNSW’s domestic and international recruitment.

Publicis wins Lexus creative account

Lexus Australia has appointed Publicis Groupe’s Team One Australia as its new brand and retail creative agency. The bespoke agency was created to service the Lexus account including strategy, creative, social media and customer-relationship management.

Wavemaker wins agency of record for Audible
Audible has appointed Wavemaker as its agency of record for paid media worldwide. The account is worth $500 million globally and  $50 million in Australia. Wavemaker’s appointment follows a global review of Audible’s paid media activity.
