Last night's State of Origin game brought in 2.2m viewers for Channel Nine, with 847,000 tuning in across Sydney and 845,000 in Brisbane.

Interestingly, last night's game attracted slightly less viewers than games one and two which brought in 2.43m and 2.48m people, respectively.

According to overnight viewing figures from OzTAM, 1.4m watched the pre-match show, while 1.16m watched the after-show commentary and analysis.

Nine's dominance across sports brought its total market share to a significant 46.7% - some way out in front of rivals Seven (19.2%) and Ten (16.2%).

Masterchef (Channel 10) and A Current Affair (Channel 9) continued to fare well throughout the evening, picking up more viewers than the start of the mid-year Ashes test.

MasterChef notched up 936,000 viewers, with A Current Affair trailing closely behind with 920,000. Border Security Frontline (Channel 7) also scored a higher audience than the cricket, bringing in 697,000 eyes versus the game's UK opening 678,000, which also went out on a Nine channel – Gem.
