Network Ten, owned by US-based media group ViacomCBS, reportedly recorded a statutory loss of $225.58 million for the year to December.

Revenue was $601 million for the 12 months.

The result, first reported in The Australian, included $138 million of impairments and a provision of nearly $47 million for onerous "sporting and program" rights.

Ten, in a five-year deal, $100 million deal with the Victoria Racing Club, has the broadcast rights to the Melbourne Cup.

Looking ahead, the company says COVID-19 is expected to have an adverse impact in 2020.

“The company cannot quantify the magnitude and duration of such impact at this time,” according to financial filings to Australian authorities

The May SMI (Standard media Index) numbers show media agency bookings for television down 35.6%

A Network 10 spokesperson: “It (2019)_ was a year of investment at 10 as we bedded down our prime time schedule and set up our Sales team for success.

“The results of that investment are evident this year: audience and audience share growth, and TV ad market share growth.“
