Creative technology company AFK has launched an interactive 3D banner advertising format, with automotive company MINI Australia as the inaugural advertiser.

Sydney headquartered AFK has secured the exclusive market rights to the 3D banner advertising format from Japan based Mawari Inc, a creative technology development agency specialising in mixed reality (MR), augmented reality (AR) and web 3D.

MINI is the first brand in Australia to adopt the new format, promoting its MINI Countryman model across Nine’s digital assets including The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, and nine.com.au.

Consumers can customise the way the car is presented, allowing them to rotate the vehicle, change colours, turn the headlights on and off, and explore details in and outside of the vehicle.

AFK founder and CEO James Sugrue says despite accounting for a significant proportion of digital display spend, banner advertising hasn't evolved over the years.

"With Mawari’s technology, we can now offer advertising that’s not only engaging for consumers but allows brands to showcase their products in 3D whilst collecting powerful consumer insights along the way,” Sugrue says.

AFK was recently reappointed as digital services partner for MINI Australia for an additional two years, expanding on its ten-year relationship together.

“Driving customer experience is a priority for MINI, so being able to give consumers the chance to interact with our MINI Countryman model, directly via banner ads, is an exciting opportunity and we’re delighted to have partnered with AFK to bring it to life," MINI Australia and New Zealand head of marketing Alex McLean.

This is the latest move from the automotive company to strengthen its digital advertising.

It recently partnered with Cartelux to drive its digital advertising for its dealers across Australia and celebrated its 60th anniversary with bespoke messages for drivers in a digital out-of-home campaign.
