MediaCom is to retain the media planning and buying account of cruise line company Carnival Australia after a global review, AdNews understands.

MediaCom will manage media for all of Carnival's cruise line brands in Australia.

In the past year, Carnival Australia spent about $20 million on media, led by Princess Cruise Lines ($7.3 million), P&O Cruises ($5.7 million) and Carnival Cruise Lines ($3.6 million).

Carnival Australia brands include Carnival Cruise Line, Cunard Line, P&O Cruises, Princess Cruises and Holland America Line.

Earlier this week, Omnicom's PHD picked up Carnival Corporation media accounts in the US and UK, consolidating all of the cruise liner brands under one agency. The company spent US$116 million on media in these markets.

The Australian leg of the review also consolidated Carnival's media business with one agency.

MediaCom and Carnival Australia declined to comment when contacted by AdNews.
