Are reach rules on the way out?

The AFR is reporting that the government is poised to expedite moves to abolish the reach rule before Christmas as opposition mounts in Canberra to outdated legislation in the face of rapid technology advances. The Fairfax Media publication says it understands the government is preparing to propose amendments to media regulation to Parliament that will include scrapping the reach rule and possibly the two-out-of-three rule.

Fairfax's Domain buys into property app

Fairfax Media's property offering Domain has bought into Homepass, which is a property inspection app created by former REA executive, Daniel Oertli, The Australian reports. Homepass is rumoured to be worth $30 million with Fairfax said to have taken a 40% stake. It is understood that Homepass will be embedded into Domain's own app, in order to use its sales force and to accelerate its roll-out.

Hugh Marks tipped to be named Gyngell's successor

Also in the AFR, Nine Entertainment Co is tipped to appoint board director and television industry veteran Hugh Marks as successor to its current chief executive, David Gyngell, before the metropolitan free-to-air broadcaster's annual meeting on November 17. According to The AFR Gyngell will maintain a role at Nine, most likely as a board director.

Yahoo7 ramps up native ad offering

The Australian is reporting that Yahoo7 is is ramping up its native advertising play, with the move accounting for the publishers largest revenue growth in years. Yahoo7's native in-stream ads closely resemble Facebook's sponsored post, with chief executive of the business in Australia Ed Harrison, telling The Australian the offering has been so successful it would represent 25% of the Seven West Media's joint venture's top line growth for this year.
