In the US, Hamburglar hasn't been seen since 2002. It sees like in that time he reformed  himself as a suburban dad, flipping burgers in backyard barbecues. Now Hamburglar is back with a vengeance and could star in a raft of advertising.

The revival comes just days after global CEO Steve Easterbrook outlined his global turnaround plans for the chain including sharpening up marketing.

McDonald's couldn't confirm whether Hamburglar would make an appearance Down Under, however.

A Year ago, McDonald's brought Ronald McDonald back into the spotlight with a new look and a social media presence for the first time with Twitter and Instagram accounts.

McDonald's is going through some changes – and a year after reviving its Ronald McDonald character and giving the mascot a hipster facelift – the fast food chain has done the same with the Hamburglar character in the US.

Yesterday, McDonald's tweeted a 30-second ad featuring the unidentified character, implying that the limited edition sirloin burgers are bringing everyone out of the woodwork. “Even him.”
