Mail Online assistant editor jumps to Yahoo7

Former Mail Online assistant editor Simon Wheeler has moved to Yahoo7 as head of editorial for Australia and New Zealand.

In his new role Wheeler will oversee editorial across all parts of the Yahoo business and provide a strategic direction for content spanning news, lifestyle, entertainment, travel, finance and sport. He will be charged with managing teams in both Australia and New Zealand and ensuring alignment with joint partners such as Seven West Media.

Wheeler has more than 20 years' experience in media as both a writer and an editor. Beyond his role at Mail Online he has worked for national newspapers and magazines in the UK, including The Sun and The Daily Star along with metro newspapers and online in Australia.

Wheeler will be based in Sydney for his new role.

Yahoo7 Director of product and audience Caroline Casey said Wheeler will be instrumental in helping grow Yahoo7 and Yahoo New Zealand.

“Providing engaging, entertaining and informative content for our audience is at the core of our business model,” Casey said.

“We constantly strive to enhance editorial offerings across all our media properties with the goal of being number one in news.”
