Hot on the heels of his recent brand tie-up with American sports clothing and accessories company, Under Armour, former NRL star and current San Francisco 49ers player, Jarryd Hayne, has scored another number one – in the Nielsen Twitter TV Ratings.

Hayne's highly anticipated 49ers debut on ‘Monday Night Football’ was the number one program on Nielsen Twitter TV Ratings during the day of play. With more than 13,000 Tweets being viewed over 2.7 million times by a unique audience of 193,000, sports fans around Australia jumped on Twitter to follow the real time commentary of all the big plays and key moments.

Head of Twitter TV Ratings in Australia at Nielsen, Scott Gillham, said: “Unsurprisingly, there is little doubt that the 49ers have been adopted as ‘Australia’s team’ in the NFL with 91% of mentions for @49ers vs 9% @Vikings and @JarrydHayne_1 being the most mentioned player with more than 2,700 mentions by Australian fans.”

While not as well known in the US, Hayne still featured in the top 10 most mentioned players coming in at number six, just behind 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick (five) and linebacker Navorro Bowman (four) with running back Carlos Hyde being the most mentioned player by US fans. The San Francisco 49ers running back and kick returner, Hayne, was this week added to performance brand Under Armour's roster.

He joins other big sporting names such as NBA MVP Stephen Curry, American Ballet Theatre principal dancer Misty Copeland, Manchester United star Memphis Depay and NFL MVP and Super Bowl legend Tom Brady.

“This partnership was a natural fit for me - Under Armour is a powerful global brand with a deep history in American football. I have used Under Armour gear throughout my NFL training and it gives me a definite advantage. I look forward to representing Under Armour in the next chapter of my journey,” said the 'Hayne Train'.

“Jarryd epitomises everything we stand for as a brand - hard work, will and determination” said Under Armour Australia managing director Will Phillips.

“He is writing his own story and we are excited to watch it unfold. Under Armour is proud to support him on this journey.”
