Our Industry Profile takes a look at some of the professionals working across the advertising, ad tech, marketing and media sector in Australia. It aims to shed light on the varying roles and companies across the buzzing industry.

Today, we head to Melbourne to meet Unlockd's global operations manager Jane Martino.

Duration in current role/time at the company:

Investor from seed stage, operationally involved in the business for over a year.

How would you describe what the company does?

We are creating an ‘attention’ based virtual currency platform.

What does your role involve?

The day-to-day running of the business. I oversee everything from people and culture to legal and product – it’s a varied role that covers all of our global offices so I love the pace and opportunity for constant learning, growth and challenge.

Within the last six months/year, what stands out as the company’s major milestones?

We’ve launched in three new markets this year, our team has grown by over 50%, we have four offices now globally and we have proven the model across verticals other than telco (our first one) including music streaming and loyalty.

Best thing about the industry you work in:

The fact it is always evolving and forces you to always be ahead of the curve, especially if you have a unique product which we do.

Previous industry related companies you have worked at:

My first company was an agency so I understand the landscape – and I since moved into tech and sold my last startup to ANZ Bank. So nothing directly similar, we have plenty of people in the business with industry-specific expertise.

Career-wise, where do you see yourself in three years time?

Probably on a few boards, still investing and advising startups and spending a lot more time on Smiling Mind and progressing support for mental health.

What is the elephant in the room? The thing that no one is talking about – but they should be.

Mental health in the workplace

Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you?

I lived in Canada when I was younger.
