15 June 2021

Our Industry Profile takes a look at some of the professionals working across the advertising, adtech, marketing and media sector in Australia. It aims to shed light on the varying roles and companies across the buzzing industry.

This week we speak to Localsearch director of digital and growth Adam Boote.

Time in current role/time at the company:
I started my company in 2014 which then merged with Localsearch in 2017. Six years all up.

How would you describe what the company does?
We bring calm to the chaos of digital marketing for business owners.

What do you do day-to-day?
I head up both our digital fulfillment and internal marketing teams while exploring opportunities to grow our business using automation and technology.

Define your job in one word:
Fulfilling.

I got into digital marketing because:
I have a genuine passion for helping businesses grow using online marketing.

What’s the biggest challenge you face in your role?
Being agile to market conditions – sometimes the systems and processes can’t change as fast as I want them to.

What’s the biggest industry-wide challenge you’d like to see tackled?
Regulation of SEO services.

Previous industry related companies you have worked at:
Entertainment Book, Reach Local UK, Local Web Experts (my own startup that merged with Localsearch, becoming Localsearch Digital Marketing Service).

Notable campaigns you have worked on:
O’Brien Auto Glass, Victory Blinds.

Who has been a great mentor to you and why?
My father has worked for himself since the age of 25, so he has always given me sound advice whenever I asked for it or needed a fresh perspective.

Words of advice for someone wanting a job like yours?
The harder you work, the easier it gets. The easier you try and make it, the harder it gets.

If I wasn't doing this for a living, I'd be:
I would be in the FinTech space or politics.

My philosophy is:
Dream big, always, even when people tell you “ya dreaming”. Nothing is impossible.

My favourite advert is:
I hate to say it, but it’s ‘Not Happy, Jan!’. It’s just so simple, yet so good at the same time.

Music and TV streaming habits. What do you subscribe to?
All of them.

Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you?
When I was 19, I won the South Island (NZ) Middleweight Novice Boxing Championship. People think you have to be a tough guy to box but it’s much more than that, you need to train harder than everyone else and also be strong in the mind. TBH, I was always very nervous before each fight but once you are in the ring, you realise that you’ve already put the hard work in so you’ll be fine.

In five years' time I'll be:
Hopefully travelling overseas again, there are so many places I haven't been yet. In the meantime, I’ll most likely have two more kids
