Our Industry Profile takes a weekly look at some of the professionals working across the advertising, ad tech, marketing and media sector in Australia. It aims to shed light on the varying roles and companies across the buzzing industry.

For our last profile we spoke with Starcom Sydney GM Martin Hadley.

This time we speak to new Airtasker VP of marketing Simon Reynolds - who will be speaking at our AdNews Media + Marketing Summit. Get your tickets here

Duration in current role/time at the company:

Almost three years.

In one sentence, how would you describe what the company does?

We connect people who need things done with people nearby who have the relevant skills to do it for them.

In one sentence, what does your role involve?

I run marketing and growth at Airtasker.

Within the last six months/year, what stands out as the company’s major milestones?

We’ve doubled our task volumes to over 60,000 tasks per month and scaled from 400,000 to 900,000 members. We also launched our Like a Boss campaign which saw an increase in over 40% monthly posted tasks.

Best thing about the industry you work in:

Working in technology gives access to a wealth of in-house technical expertise and data which we are empowered to use in order to shape our marketing.

Previous industry related companies you have worked at:

Client side. Digital marketing manager at Aldi and Freelancer.com

Career-wise, where do you see yourself in three years time?

Scaling Airtasker to new heights and hopefully new markets.

What is the elephant in the room? The thing that no one is talking about – but they should be.

Traditional channels not being able to justify their worth and new channels like Facebook and Instagram are losing the confidence of marketers, due to over-cooking their metrics.

Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you?

Sometimes I wear headphones and don’t even play music through them.

The last book I read:

These days most of my downtime is spent listening to podcasts but the last book I read was The Science of Growth by Sean Ammirati.

My mantra / philosophy is:

Just start getting it done, lean startup style.

I got into marketing because:

Passion for technology and for marketing 101 back in first year uni days.

If I wasn't doing this for a living, I'd be:

Working on one of my many terrible startup ideas.

In five years' time I'll be:

Placing the Airtasker flag all over the world.

Define your job in one word:

Evolving.

What's your poison:

The perfect strong cappuccino.
