Independent creative agency Bear Meets Eagle on Fire is coming home with six Cannes Lions, including a Grand Prix and Independent Agency of the Year award.

How did they celebrate? Chief creative officer Micah Walker told AdNews that the team had more rosé than they had expected to.

"The real celebration will come when we’re all together again with the wider team back home," Walker said.

With so much discussion around AI, Telstra's 'Better on Better Network' stood out for how ambitious and humanly crafted it was, the Jury president told the team at Cannes.

"They all spoke about the scale of the campaign and just how detailed it was, but I think the human hand at work, at scale and as comedy, just made for a unique combination this year," Walker said.

Walker said that the Telstra campaign came from wanting to do more ambitious work, showing how so many places can benefit from a better network.

"We originally presented it as 52 15s, one released a week, but the Olympics media opportunity just made so much sense, so we scaled it back to 26 for that moment. The process was quite back and forth," Walker said.

"We had scripts and detailed ideas inspired by the specific locations, but when we also started playing around with real voices from those areas, different idiosyncrasies also shaped the characters and performances."

"It was seven months of production alone, after we’d sold the idea."

Walker said that the team is already on set for their next production.

"We love the ambition of everyone on this brand, so we’ll keep trying hard to make even better things."
