Former Seven West Media executive John Fitzgerald has been arrested for allegedly defrauding the media company of $8 million.

Police will allege Fitzgerald falsified at least 700 “invoices and incidents” and siphoned funds to multiple bank accounts he created in 2002-2016.

Fitzgerald, now aged 57, worked as Seven’s commercial manager for programming.

Court documents show that Seven first became aware of suspicious activity in 2016. In March 2017 an investigation was established to look into the “misappropriation of funds totalling more than $8 million by a former employee of the network”.

Seven has declined to comment as the matter is before the courts.
