Facebook appoints Melbourne head

Facebook Australia has promoted Melissa Verner Green to head of Melbourne, a role that will see her lead the company's  operations in Victoria across Facebook and Instagram.

The move follows the appointment of former DDB Melbourne planning director Tom Hyde as creative agency partner earlier this month.

Verner Green joined Facebook in April as head of its Melbourne agency relationship team. Previously, she was a sales director at Fairfax Media and agency group director at Fairfax's APM Division.

Stephen Scheeler, managing director of Facebook Australia and New Zealand, said the appointments recognise the importance of the Melbourne market to Facebook's future strategy.

“Mel is an outstanding leader and has seen a great deal of success in her short time here. She is deeply entrenched in the Melbourne market and has strong relationships across many of our clients and agency partners,” Scheeler said.

Facebook has made a number of adland hires recently to boost its creative credentials. The social media company wants more Facebook-first advertising campaigns, rather than it being viewed by creatives as an afterthought.

Chief among the hires is Hyde, who will liaise with creative agencies to promote Facebook activity further up the campaign pecking order.

Former Clemenger BBDO Sydney creative director Rebecca Carrasco and Google agency lead Dina Bailey have also bolstered Facebook's creative team.
