Clemenger BBDO Melbourne has hired former Ogilvy Melbourne head of digital, Ben Kidney, to head up its digital department.

Kidney joins as director of digital, a role that will see him lead the digital function at the agency. Clemenger Melbourne has a strong reputation in the digital space, recently appearing as a finalist for Digital Agency of the Year at the AdNews Agency of the Year Awards.

Kidney had been at Ogilvy since 2014, joining after two years at R/GA New York leading Nike in the role of executive producer.

Clemenger BBDO Melbourne CEO Nick Garrett says the agency undertook an international search to find someone to fill the role but “the wonderful irony is that there was someone sitting right down St Kilda Road”.

“Ben’s knowledge and experience across technology and operations is extremely impressive, but what excited creative chairman James McGrath and I the most about him was his love of ideas,” Garrett says.
