Clemenger BBDO has been crowned as the Asia Pacific (APAC) winner of Amazon’s Alexa Cup.

The global competition challenges companies to strategise, prepare, build and pitch an Alexa skill with a go-to-market strategy that solves a business problem in a category.

The APAC win follows the agency’s win of the Australian and New Zealand round, which then saw the team go up against the Asia region finalists, Japan and India for the opportunity to pitch in person on the main stage at the Global VOICE Summit in Newark, New Jersey in July against the winners of the Americas and European regions.

The competition has rolled out globally with four ANZ companies making the shortlist based on the quality of their ideas, experience and capability in developing voice-based work.

“Voice is set to revolutionise the way in which we engage with technology, search on the internet, and the way people connect with brands," Clemenger BBDO managing partner and director of interactive Ben Kidney says.

"We’ve been on an enablement journey over the past 12 months, combining brilliant strategic and creative firepower with world-class experience architects and technological capability to help our clients capitalise on the huge opportunity that voice represents.”

Clemenger BBDO’s winning idea used AI to deliver self-affirmation and foster human connection to aid sufferers of anxiety in the community.

“The Alexa Cup is about fostering the best ideas from agencies across Australia and New Zealand for a branded skill experience," Alexa Skills ANZ country manager Kate Burleigh says.

"The Clemenger BBDO team made great use of Alexa’s developer tools and applied creativity to a real human problem to deliver a great voice-driven customer experience, and we're now excited to see them represent Australia in future rounds and see the skill come to life."
