Bride & Prejudice helps Seven win in TV ratings

Seven took the largest slice of overall viewers last night with help from its news and reality TV shows. In second place was Nine followed by the ABC, which edged out Ten for third place.

Seven Network received 29% of the main channel audience. The premiere of its Bride & Prejudice – Forbidden Weddings led in the prime time slot, 7.30-8.30pm, with 633,000 viewers.

The reality TV show, which follows six couples trying to win over their dissaproving families, beat Nine's new season of Family Food Fight which aired in the same time slot. The premiere of the home cooking show's second season attracted an audience of 411,000.

Family Food Fight was also beaten by the ABC's 7.30pm current affairs show and Australian Story which aired in the same time slot with 698,000 and 769,000 viewers respectively.

In second place with 25% of the main channel audience share is Nine Network which was bolstered by its news and a current affairs programmes. Its 6.30pm news bulletin attracted an audience of 891,000 while A Current Affair drew 757,000 viewers.

The ABC took 21% of the audience, seeing it taker third place for audience share. Four Corners and Media Watch beat both commercial networks Ten and Nine in the 8.30-9.30pm time slot, attracting 721,000 and 632,000 viewers respectively.

Ten's Have You Been Paying Attention? also received more viewers than Family Food Fight with an audience of 683,000.

The celebrity game show has been a ratings success for Ten and the network's parent company CBS bought the rights to the show's format for international development last week.
