The first standalone live sports channel for Amazon Prime Video in Australia is now live, with the streaming service partnering with sports media company beIN SPORTS.

The move comes just over a month after Prime Video closed a four-year deal for exclusive live broadcast rights in Australia for ICC cricket.

The beIN SPORTS service with Prime Video Channels, which allows customers to add channels for a monthly subscription fee, will broadcast international football, tennis, and rugby tournaments.

Hushidar Kharas, head of Amazon Prime Video Australia and New Zealand, says the partnership is an exciting step forward for Prime Video’s sports offering.

“We know our Australian customers are obsessed with live sport, and the add-on of beIN SPORTS via Prime Video Channels will unlock thousands of marquee events for football, tennis, and rugby enthusiasts," he says.

Mike Kerr, MD of beIN Asia Pacific, says the partnership with Prime Video Channels marks a significant milestone for beIN SPORTS.

"Through this exciting alliance, we are not only expanding our reach but also ensuring that the sports community have unparalleled access to our premium and exclusive sports coverage,” he says.

In 2024, Amazon Prime Video will start displaying commercials; subscribers in Australia will see advertising later in the year.
