Amazon Prime Video has teamed up with Australian actress Rebel Wilson to produce its first Australian Amazon Original series.

LOL: Last One Laughing will be hosted and executive produced by the Australian actress along with production company Endemol Shine. The show will be available exclusively on Prime Video in more than 200 countries next year.

The six-part series will feature a cast of 10 Australian comedic actors and stand-ups competing to make each other laugh first. The final comedian left standing will win a grand prize of $100,000.

“I’ve already had the chance to work with Alexa (di9gital assistant) - she’s great - and on Audible, so working with Prime Video seemed like an obvious choice,” Wilson says.

“I can’t wait to see what these talented Australian comedians come up with and how far they’ll go to take home the prize.”

LOL: Last One Laughing will be produced in Sydney this spring, after already launched in Japan and Mexico.

“Customers in Japan and Mexico have told us they love Documental and LOL: Last One Laughing,” James Farrell, head of International Originals for Amazon Studios, says.

“Australia was an easy choice as the next country to bring this to and Rebel Wilson was at the top of our list to host and star. We think our Prime members are going to love it.”

It comes as Disney revealed it will be rolling out its streaming platform Disney+, which will give users access to content from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars National Geographic, and more, in November locally.

The entrance of the entertainment giant Disney means current streaming platforms such as Netflix, Amazon and Stan will have to amp up their original series to retrain subscribers.
