R/GA designed the front cover of AdNews for the Nov/Dec issue

The AdNews Annual 2018 issue is here and celebrates an impressive 90 years of the nation’s leading advertising, media and marketing publication.

The edition takes a different format to our regular monthly magazine as we feature a range of perspectives from leading brands including Vegemite, Bonds, Aeroplane Jelly, Telstra, VB, Tourism Australia, Uber, Stan and more. Each opinion also features a look at the work – from historic ad campaigns to newer ads, demonstrating the change in ad style – or not so much for some.

We also look back at Nine decades of historic covers, we remember David Yaffa, talk to the Toms and launch a new Family Ties feature which looks at the dynasties working in adland.

However, the AdNews Annual isn’t just about looking back as our cover agency R/GA demonstrates. We asked the creative minds at the Sydney shop to look forward to the next 90 years and how our landscape may change.

The irony of asking a digital agency to create the front cover of a 90-year-old anniversary edition for AdNews was not lost on us. It’s not AI and robots that will become of the utmost importance to the advertising landscape in the next 90 years, it’s bigger and deeper than that — it’s us as people, as commodities, that will become increasingly sought after.

The agency worked with Haruhiko Kawaguchi (AKA “Photographer Hal”) to create the cover.
