The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) and creative agency Orchard have launched a new campaign urging the public not to put off consulting their GP for health issues including those aside from COVID-19 during the pandemic.

The campaign has gone live this week across TV, social and online.

It highlights the vital role GPs play in managing not only COVID-19 but numerous other health conditions.

It shows how for vulnerable people, GPs cut through misinformation and confusion to offer Expert Advice When It Matters Most.

“A large number of people worry about their health condition and the implications of managing those concerns during a pandemic," Orchard creative director Tim Condrick says.

"The campaign aims to strike out some assumptions and reveal the ‘expert advice’ that a GP can provide.”

The campaign follows concerns in the medical community that patients are avoiding important medical consultations and tests because they fear COVID-19 and either don’t know about or feel uncomfortable with telephone or video consultations.

This has healthcare experts concerned that the burden of other diseases may balloon when the pandemic resolves.

“We want to ensure that the public know that with increased availability of telehealth or telephone consultations in addition to in-person consultations, seeing a GP for any new or ongoing health concern is as simple and as safe as ever," RACGP President Dr Harry Nespolon says.
