Nine dominated the ratings battle last night with 2.80 million people tuning in for The Block finale and more than 1.6 million for the debut of Underbelly: Squizzy. Ten's Ripper Street debut, up against Underbelly, achieved 579,000 metro viewers.
The Block: Sky High aired from 6.30 - 8.30pm last night and was split into three parts; a grand final, the auctions and the winner's announcement. Each format built its audience to reach a peak of 2.80 million metro viewers for the final announcement, according to preliminary overnight ratings from Oztam. The grand final and auctions attracted audiences of 2.13 million and 2.60 million respectively.
The show had performed consistently well for Nine throughout the series with audiences of more than 1.6 million multiple times.
Meanwhile, the launch of Nine's Underbelly: Squizzy - which aired directly after The Block at 8.30pm - also performed exceptionally well with 1.67 million metro viewers. Its first episode, which aired after the debut, garnered 1.14 million. Nine News (6pm) had 1.54 million metro viewers.
Ahead of Ripper Street in the Ten schedule, MasterChef kicked off its love-themed week at 7.30pm. It attracted 606,000 metro viewers. Ten News at Five scored 544,000 viewers.
For Network Seven, its News format was the highest-rating program with 1.43 million viewers. Sunday Night landed 1.07 million, while a double episode of Highway Patrol peaked at 821,000 viewers. The network's Bones and Castle also featured in the top 20 programs.
Overall, Nine had the majority share with 35.6%, followed by Seven with 18.5%. Ten had 10.6% and SBS had 3.3%.
