House Rules beat The Voice to the top spot in the TV ratings last night, relegating Nine's behemoth into second spot for the first time this series.

Seven's House Rules Reveal show won 1.658 million viewers across Australia's five metro areas, while The Voice won 1.586 million.

It is the first time since The Voice kicked off on May 5 that it hasn't hogged the limelight.

But Ten's reality offering, MasterChef Australia, once more felt the effect of going up against the big guns. It took 15th place with an audience of 718,000.

House Rules' victory helped Seven win the biggest audience share – 33.9%, followed by Nine with 30.2%, the ABC with 17% and Ten with 14%.

Nine of the top 10 free-to-air programs won more than a million viewers, according to preliminary overnight ratings figures from OzTam.

The Big Bang Theory, on Nine, pulled in 1.159 million pairs of eyes, putting it in sixth spot. And Seven's Home and Away pushed over the million mark, with 1.043 million fans tuning in.

Seven's Revenge was just outside the top 10, in 11th position with 801,000 viewers.

Completing the top 10 was Seven News, third with an audience of 1.291 million, Nine News, fourth with 1.250 million, Seven's Today Tonight, fifth with 1.208 million, Nine's A Current Affair, seventh with 1.152 million, Nine News at 6.30, eighth with 1.148 million, and ABC News, 10th with 886,000.
