The Voice kicked off to more than two million viewers on Nine last night, paving the way for the network to take the biggest free-to-air audience share.

With 2.155 million people tuning in to The Voice across Australia's five metro areas, the episode beat 2013's premiere – which won an audience of 1.82 million.

Nine's only other programs to make the top 10 most-watched, according to preliminary overnight ratings figures from OzTam, were 60 Minutes and Nine News, but this was enough for the network to take 33.6% of the audience share.

Seven took the second largest share, with 31.4%, followed by the ABC with 15.8% and Ten with 12.7%.

The Killing Field and House Rules performed well for Seven, taking out spots five and six with audiences of 1.166 million and 1.093 million respectively.

Completing the top 10 was Seven News, in second place with an audience of 1.452 million, Nine's 60 Minutes, third with 1.403 million, Nine News, fourth with 1.169 million, Seven's Sunday Night, seventh with 995,000, ABC News, eighth with 873,000, ABC News Update, ninth with 704,000, and Inspector George Gently on ABC1, 10th with 701,000.
