Creative industry ambassadors join Cannes juries

The first jury presidents for the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity sees top execs from two Aussie shops join the fray for 2018. The Monkeys innovations director Jay Morgan will take part in his first jury at the event this year, focusing on the Mobile Lions awards. Sydney-based executive creative director APAC at 72andSunny, Johnny Tan, will also be returning for a spot on the Design Lions awards jury. Tan served on the inaugural Entertainment jury in 2016. The selected group of industry leaders are tasked with judging the best work in the world to win the Lions awards, alongside their jury teams.

Record numbers listen to commercial radio throughout 2017

According to industry body Commercial Radio Australia, more Australians tuned into live and local commercial radio throughout 2017 than ever before, with an average cumulative audience of nearly 10.5 million people listening each week in metropolitan areas. This represents a growing audience of more than 200,000 people. CRA CEO Joan Warner says it's particularly encouraged by the growth in listening among younger audiences as there’s a misconception that young people aren’t tuning in. However, the data shows it’s one of their favourite mediums, with 79% of 18-24-year-olds tuning in every week. Commercial radio’s reach of 18-24s has increased from 76% in 2016, and is at a four-year high, with a strong on-air talent line-up and the availability of listening via radio apps and online contributing to the positive results.

BMF hires ex-M&C Saatchi's Paul Coles

Ex-M&C Saatchi exec Paul Coles has been appointed to lead the Aldi account at BMF. Coles departed M&C Saatchi’s retail division 1440 at the end of last year after nearly four years with the agency. He initially lead the IAG Group business, which M&C later lost to The Monkeys, before moving to its retail start-up, 1440, as part of the management team for the last 18 months. His appointment follows news that BMF ECD Cam Blackley would be joining M&C Saatchi as chief creative officer - another staffing switcheroo. He replaces Toby Hussey, who led the account for two years.
