BRISBANE: Pay TV channel, the Cartoon Network, has opened an Òinteractive playgroundÓ at the Sea World theme park to give the channel a physical presence and build marketing synergies among Time Warner companies, supported by a $1m advertising campaign by Singleton Ogilvy & Mather. The playground will benefit Sea World by attracting younger kids and their families to the park, according to Ken Minnikin, group marketing manager of Warner village. Sea World paid a licensing fee to the Time Warner-owned pay TV channel to build the area, called Cartoon Beach, which has rides for under ten year-olds, along with displays and shops for merchandising. The Cartoon Network also benefits from exposing its characters, such as Scooby Doo, Tom & Jerry and Johnny Bravo, to Sea World visitors. The channelÕs viewers across Asia will be able to enter competitions to win a trip to Cartoon Beach on the Gold Coast. In 1991, Time Warner and Village Roadshow both bought a stake in the Sea World Property Trust, which owns and operates the amusement park. Cartoon Beach will be advertised on Village Roadshow cinemas and video, and on the pay TV channel.Evan Mistilis
